Enterprise AI in Trichy: what it actually takes to ship
Every enterprise wants AI. Very few know what it costs, how long it takes, and what the first six months look like. Here's the ground truth from a Trichy-based team shipping AI to global clients.
Every enterprise leader we meet in Trichy — from banks in Anna Nagar to manufacturing units off the Salem highway — asks the same first question: "how long, how much, and what does the first six months look like?"
Nobody wants a demo. They want a production system on a real workload, with real accountability. This post is our honest answer to that question.
The first honest conversation
AI projects fail early because both sides overpromise. On the vendor side, consultants promise miracles because it wins the pitch. On the buyer side, teams pick the shiniest use case because it demos well internally.
We start every engagement with a 30-minute call where nobody sells. Instead we ask three questions:
- What's the workload today? — messages per day, tickets per hour, invoices per week. Real numbers, not "many."
- Who owns it today, and what's it costing? — a name, a headcount, a monthly cost.
- What would you measure to know it worked? — a KPI, not a feeling.
If we can't answer those three cleanly by the end of the call, we don't scope a project — we do a two-week discovery instead. That's uncomfortable to say out loud, but it's the only way we've seen AI projects actually land.
What "production" means to us
A production AI system in 2026 has five parts, whether it's a chatbot or a document classifier:
- A model layer (LLM, whisper, RAG index, or fine-tuned classifier)
- A retrieval or knowledge layer (private data, source-of-truth)
- A guardrail layer (PII, jailbreak, competitor mentions)
- An orchestration layer (workflows, agents, fallbacks)
- An observability layer (logs, evals, drift alerts)
Ninety percent of the "AI companies" we see stop at the first two. That's why their systems look great in demos and break in month three.
Six-month playbook (the one we actually use)

If a vendor is promising "AI transformation in 4 weeks," ask them to point at the observability dashboard. There won't be one.
What actually costs money
Most of the AI project cost is not the model. In our last 15 engagements, the model API bill was the smallest line item — usually 8–12% of the total.
The real costs sit here:
- Data plumbing — connecting to your existing ERP, CRM, ticketing tool. Takes weeks, no matter how modern the source.
- Guardrails and evals — you don't need this for a demo. You absolutely need it for production.
- Change management — the ops team needs training, dashboards, and someone to escalate to when the AI does something odd.
- Hosting for the retrieval layer — vector DB, not free at scale.
If a proposal doesn't line-item these, question it.
Where Trichy-based teams have a genuine edge
Two things surprised us over the last two years:

Indian-language voice. Sarvam's Tamil TTS + Google Cloud's Tamil STT are now good enough for production. Our chatbot Aira runs on this stack. Bangalore vendors can build it, but nobody there tests in Tamil daily.

Cost structure. Our engineering rates land at roughly a third of Bangalore's enterprise consultancies for equivalent seniority. Not because we cut corners — because Trichy overhead is genuinely lower. That gap gets passed on.
What to ask a vendor before signing
- Can you show me the observability dashboard from your last three engagements? (redact client names, keep the metrics)
- What's your rollback plan if the AI misbehaves?
- Who is my day-two contact after go-live, and what SLA do they run under?
- Are the model weights and prompts my property, or yours?
We answer all four in writing in the SOW. If a vendor won't, that's the answer to whether the system will still be running in month twelve.
